November 7th, 2024 - 1.5 hr 1-on-1 sessions to cover topics you want to learn. Work exclusively with Laney to improve your knowledge and skills on topics you choose. (Limited Time Slots available, first come first serve)

PLUS, there will be a 4-hour in-depth Vectric and CNC Carving Class on Friday, November 8th from 8:00 AM to Noon.

November 8th, 2024 - 4- Hours Group Class Session:

Hour 1: Review and Advanced Design Concepts in Vectric CAD/CAM

  • Introduction (5 mins): Overview of the class and objectives.

  • Recap of Basic Vectric Concepts (15 mins): A quick review of essential design tools, vector creation, and editing.

  • Intermediate Vector Design Techniques (20 mins): Using node editing, layers, and working with complex vector shapes.

  • 3D Modeling Basics (20 mins): Introduction to 3D modeling features, creating reliefs, and working with 3D clipart.

Hour 2: Advanced Toolpath Strategies

  • Toolpath Overview (10 mins): Discussing different types of toolpaths, including profile, pocket, and V-carving.

  • 3D Roughing and Finishing Toolpaths (20 mins): Setting up roughing and finishing toolpaths for complex designs.

  • Optimizing Toolpath Strategies (15 mins): Techniques to minimize carving time and achieve better finishes.

  • Toolpath Simulation and Preview (15 mins): Using simulation tools to preview cuts and identify potential issues.

Hour 3: CNC Machine Operation and Maintenance

  • Machine Setup and Safety (15 mins): Best practices for setting up the CNC machine, securing materials, and safety protocols.

  • Advanced Jogging and Zeroing Techniques (15 mins): Using a wireless handwheel and precise jogging methods.

  • Tool Changes and Maintenance (15 mins): Proper methods for tool changes, spindle care, and routine maintenance.

  • Troubleshooting Common Issues (15 mins): Addressing problems like toolpath errors, bit breakage, and material inconsistencies.

Hour 4: Practical Application and Q&A

  • Hands-on Design Exercise (20 mins):Students will be encouraged to bring their computers so they can create an intermediate design in Vectric, incorporating 2D and 3D elements.

  • Toolpath Setup Exercise (20 mins): Students set up and simulate a toolpath for their design, focusing on efficiency and accuracy.

  • Live Carving Demonstration (10 mins): Run a design on the CNC, explaining key steps and answering questions during the process.

  • Q&A and Next Steps (10 mins): Open discussion for specific questions, challenges, and recommendations for further learning.
